Horses Trailers and Church

Skipper

This horse says, “This is Close enough!”

When Calder arrived to do a “Horse Problem Demonstration,” for a trail ride group from Miami, he was told about a horse that got hurt in a horse trailer and did not want to get back in. It took about 40 minutes for Calder to load and unload the horse 4 or 5 times before he turned the lead rope over to the owners. He assured the owners they could use the same techniques and get the same results. The husband and wife each loaded the horse successfully, taking away the fear that they would not be able to load their horse at the end of the trail ride to go home. They became happy campers.

Horses that have been hurt in a horse trailer never want to get back in. They do not trust the trailer because it hurt them. We sometimes need to get our horse to the vet, but they won’t go near a horse trailer. So we try to doctor them the best we can. Sometimes the wound never heals because we do not have the knowledge or medicine of a vet and the horse never lives up to his full potential.

Many of us have been hurt by a church, and we have no intention
of going back. We have this deep longing in our soul for something, but don’t know what it is. We desperately need to get close to God but we will not get close to a church. So we try to treat our wounded soul with our own knowledge about God. We do not have the

knowledge or power we need from God, never living up to God’s full potential or His Godly purpose for our lives.

The cure for both the horse getting over his fear of the trailer and a person getting over their fear of reviving their relationship with God are the same, go back to the basics. The horse must get his eyes off the trailer and on the trainer, learning to trust the trainer more then fear of the trailer. For people, we must get our eyes off the church and on God through Jesus Christ. When we learn to trust and obey Jesus, we will learn the church has no power to hurt us.

Skipper

Obedience becomes greater than fear.

The good news is you do not have to get into a formal church setting, you can learn about the Bible, God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit from a distance. At Cowboy-up Ministry there is no tail gate (door) going to close behind you to make you feel trapped and claustrophobic. Horses are not scared 50 feet from the trailer because they do not feel trapped and it can’t hurt them. You can bring your lawn chair and sit as far away as you want under the large oak trees at Cracker Trail Arena. We don’t ask men to hug men or pass the offering plate, but you may want to mosey up to the pole barn where you will find the coffee, juice, ice tea and fresh donuts.

Horse training and a Biblical message starts at 10am every Sunday at 6134 East SR 66, Zolfo Springs, Florida. The message will speak of God’s love and desire to train us comparing it to the way we need to train our horses.
