My definition of crazy: “Doing the say thing the same way over and over but expecting a different outcome.”

I have been very guilty of that in my training. I had bad training habits. Even when I wanted to change, I would go back to my old ways. Most of us know how hard it is to change a bad habit.

I made my biggest and best horse training advancements after I got seriously hurt by a horse I was training. I could not ride or work for several weeks so I spent more time reading and watching training videos.

I couldn’t ride so I practiced over and over in my mind. Our body learns "bad” muscle memory or “ good” muscle memory. We have so much trouble because we continue to do the same wrong things.

We must change before our horse will change. If you are not getting the results from your horse you want, concentrate on one thing at the time to change.

Did you hear me? Work on ONE thing at the time; Have a plan before you start; Pick one thing you want to change and Learn a new way to correct it.

I said new way because our old ways tend not to work to get the DESIRED result. You must change your bad training habits, one habit at a time. Don’t try to fix everything at once. Pick one thing and have a plan on how to change it. Practice it over and over until you change your habit.

When you change your habit, your horse will change too!

If you have not read the last few months do so now!

The most important things in any relationship is knowledge and time. You need to know what makes an animal or person happy, sad, mad, discouraged, encouraged or empowered. Relationships are not all about US.

Relationships tend to be ‘give and take‘. WRONG answer….relationships should be ‘give and receive‘. If you have to take, it’s not much of a partnership or relationship.

If you want your horse to be your partner, if you want a relationship that works, study my previous months tips.
